The semi-finals were completed today (Sunday) at Pascoes the Jewellers NZ Residentials in association with Configure Express, Timex and North Shore City Council at Albany Tennis Park, Oteha Valley Road Extn, Albany. The men's semi-finals caused some upsets today with second seed and NZ's number two Jose 'Rubin' Statham going down in three sets to third seed Marcus Daniell (Central). Statham won the first set and was 3-0 up before Daniell fought back to take the second set in a tiebreak. Daniell went on to win the third set and match 6-4 to secure his first time in the NZ Residentials final. Fifth seed Austen Childs (Wkto-Bays) continues to impressive with a three set victory over Adam Thompson (Auck). Childs won the first set without dropping a game, but then dropped the second 6-3. He took out the third set 6-2 to seal the victory. In the women's semi-finals, it was the top two seeds that prevailed. Marina Erakovic (Auck) got through her semi-final match against Abbey Guthrie (Auck) unscathed, meanwhile second seed Ellen Barry (Cant) beat third seed Kairangi Vano (Auck) 7/5 7/5. The women's singles final kicks off at 6.30pm on Monday night with the men's singles final to follow. Both finals will be held Indoors at the Albany Tennis Park. ( ) means what number seed they are. Men's Semi-finals: (5) Austen Childs (Wkto-Bays) beat (4) Adam Thompson 6/0 3/6 6/4; (3) Marcus Daniell (Central) beat (2) Jose 'Rubin' Statham (Auck) 3/6 7/6 (7) 6/4 Women's Semi-finals: (1) Marina Erakovic (Auck) beat (6) Abbey Guthrie (Auck) 6/0 6/0; (2) Ellen Barry beat (3) Kairangi Vano (Auck) 7/5 7/5 Entry is free. However there will be gold coin donation to Tennis Northern Junior Development.
