Vos and Venter appointed to new coaching roles PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 09 December 2009 00:00

Marcel Vos and Werner Venter will take on enhanced coaching roles with Tennis NZ.

Vos has been appointed to the role of Tour Coach for the senior/pro players. This will incorporate the Davis and Fed Cup Captaincy roles and will see him ‘on the road’ providing much needed support to the top players for 20-25 weeks per year.

Vos was appointed as Fed Cup Captain for 2009 and the team did very well to reach the final of Asia/Oceania Group 1. He has also worked successfully with all current Davis and Fed Cup players during the past two years. Most recently he has completed a series of ‘weeks on the road’ with many of the top male and female players and has assisted them to some excellent results. The enhanced role will enable Vos to provide more year-round support to the players and to assist them with their careers.

Venter has been appointed to the role of Tour Coach for the juniors, with an emphasis in the area of the ITF 18s – transition stage players. Venter will also work predominately ‘on the road’, guiding New Zealand’s best emerging young players through the initial stages of their international careers, also for 20-25 weeks per year.

Most recently Venter has been the head coach of the successful Waikato-Bays Regional Performance Centre (RPC). During his tenure, Waikato-Bays teams have achieved results above and beyond expectation, and a competitive international mentality has been established. He has conducted a number of successful overseas tours for junior players from Waikato-Bays and beyond. At the time of writing he is in Florida with three of New Zealand’s top junior players at the Orange Bowl tournament.

“With Marcel Vos and Werner Venter on-board for these roles we look forward to an enhanced international focus during 2010 and beyond, and even more support for our aspiring professional players,” says Tennis NZ CEO Steve Walker.

“We are delighted to bring Marcel and Werner on board in these enhanced tour coach roles. Our focus here will be to provide the best ‘on the road’ support to our players so as to give them the best chance of international success.”
