The Zimbabwe Softball Association staged a ladies season opening softball festival (pictured below) last Friday, February 19, at the Roosevelt Girls High Softball Grounds in Harare. The theme of the event was “Empowering Women and Girls Through Participation in Softball” and had nine teams taking part. ZSA President Stonard Mapfumo threw out a ceremonial first pitch to officially open the one-day festival that had participants ranging from junior high to adult (slightly more than 160 athletes, plus 20 teachers and administrators). An even greater number of athletes and teams is expected at the Easter Tournament in April.
