The Australian Rugby Sevens have been drawn in a favourable pool for the upcoming IRB Sevens World Series which will be staged in Adelaide from 19-21 March. Captain Patrick McCutcheon’s side will compete in Pool D where they will take on fierce rivals England, Niue and the US during the opening two days of competition at Adelaide Oval. The Australian Sevens will be full of confidence after achieving their best result in two years last week in Las Vegas, when they finished fourth after going down narrowly to eventual champions - and current No.2 - Samoa 14-12 in the Cup semi-finals. Coach Michael O’Connor’s team will be aiming for a top two finish in their pool to qualify for the Cup quarter-finals where they will likely face Fiji or Kenya. Australia trail England by only four points on the IRB Sevens World Series standings and a solid performance in Adelaide will see them climb into fourth place on the points table. Pool A is headlined by Series leaders New Zealand with Samoa the favourite in pool B and Fiji the standout in Pool C. Historically Australia has achieved their best results on home soil. The last tournament Australia won was in Brisbane 2002. The Adelaide Rugby Sevens runs from March 19-21 at Adelaide Oval. Tickets are on sale at Ticketek and prices start at just $17 for adults.
