American defenceman Tyler Kindle is the final name on the Vipers blueline for the 2009-10 season. Kindle's contract is for one season with an option for a second season The 31-year-old joins from ECHL's Stockton Thunder, and will be the main offensive threat from defence for the coming Elite League campaign. Kindle scored 98 points in 140 games in the NCAA with Wayne State University before turning professional in 2003 with Pensacola. The ECHL has been his home for all but 16 games of his career, and he has an impressive scoring record from defence. In 2007-8 he had a career year in assists and points, netting 10+34=44 from 57 games. He led Fresno in defensive scoring that season, and was ranked sixth across the whole of the ECHL. The 6ft 180lb left shot has iced in 301 ECHL games and has scored 51 goals and 122 assists for 173 points. "Tyler finishes our defensive unit perfectly," said Rob Wilson today. "He brings a great deal of offense as well as a solid no-nonsense defensive game. In his career year, 21 of his points came on the powerplay, so he will have a big role to play on our special teams too. "I'm very pleased to have Tyler, and I'm sure his experience and playmaking will be big assets for us this year." Kindle is the latest player to take advantage of the Vipers schooling programme, and General Manager Jaimie Longmuir couldn't praise Northumbria University's role in the signing highly enough. "Northumbria have been fantastic for us this year, and particularly when it came to Tyler's course. "They have pushed the boat out for us and done more than we could have hoped to accommodate Tyler on the MBA programme. He wouldn't be here without Northumbria's help that's for sure." Kindle will arrive in the UK for the Vipers' pre-season camp from mid August with exhibition games in Belfast on August 27 and at home to Sheffield on August 30.
