The Newcastle Vipers are delighted to announce the return of Slovakian forward and 2006 Play Off Champion with the Newcastle Vipers - Matus Petricko. The 29 year old, 6ft 1 tall, 220 pound Slovakian returns to Tyneside where he scored 53 points in 47 games for the Club during 2005/2006, helping the Vipers to a second place finish in the Elite League at their first attempt and secure the 2006 play off championship. Since his heroics on Tyneside, Petricko went on to win the 2007 Elite League play off championship with the Nottingham Panthers and the Slovakian Extraliga championship with HC Kosice last season. Speaking to Vipershockey.co.uk, Vipers head coach Rob Wilson said, "I am delighted to sign Matus again and we have been trying to sign him ever since his season with us in 2006. He is a strong powerful forward who can play in all positions and he completes our forward line up nicely." "Matus has a great record since he last played for us, going on to win the playoffs with Nottingham and the Extraliga with Kosice last season which shows he is a natural winner," said Wilson. Petricko is looking forward to returning to Newcastle, "I'm delighted to have signed for the Vipers, it is a great club with great fans. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there before and I can't wait for the new season to start. I like to look of the team and believe we will gel together well before the season starts," said Petricko.
