Friday, 12 February 2010 00:00
Jaimee Claxton (nee Provan), Black Sticks player from 2001-2005 & 2007-8 (145 caps) has announced her retirement from international hockey.

Claxton debuted for the Black Sticks in 2001 after beginning her hockey career with the Canterbury Primary Hockey team in 1987. She lists her career highlight as achieving her childhood dream by being
honoured enough to represent New Zealand at two Olympic Games (Athens and Beijing).

Jaimee’s retirement announcement comes after becoming a mum for the first time as well as taking on a new career challenge as a marketing assistant.

Claxton says her career as an international player was made possible due to the support of her family, partner, sponsors and the inspiration of her coach Kevin Towns.

Hockey New Zealand’s, Director of Hockey, Ramesh Patel, stated “Jaimee has been an integral part of the Black Sticks for over eight years. She will be remembered for her flair on attack and her long
outstanding service to New Zealand Hockey.”
