Michael Bullot has won the silver medal at the 2009 Olympic class Laser World Championships just concluded in Halifax, Canada. Lying in third overall at the outset of the final day, Bullot returned a 6th and an 8th on the water, and was aided by a second discard race allowing him to move up to win the silver. Great Britain’s Paul Goodison took the world title for 2009 continuing his dominant form in this Olympic class. The silver medal is Bullots best ever World Championship result having competed annually since 2003. His previous best placing at a World Championship was last year when he finished 5th in Sydney. The kiwi, who represents the Murrays Bay Sailing Club on Auckland’s North Shore, has been sailing well this season with some top finishes in the European Regattas over recent months. Bullot adds this silver medal to silvers at Kiel Week in Germany in June and at Princess Sofia in Spain in April. Josh Junior was the next best placed of the NZL Sailing Team competing in Halifax finishing the regatta in 11th place. This is Junior’s best finish at a Laser World Champs also, having only recently progressed from the youth ranks the result is extremely creditable. Next best place kiwi was Andrew Maloney who finished in 24th place in the fleet which totalled 164. Max Andrews missed the cut for the gold fleet at the mid way point of the regatta but excelled in the last two days to win the silver fleet. 2009 Laser World Championships, Halifax, Canada New Zealand’s Final Results 2nd Michael Bullot 11th Joshua Junior 24th Andrew Maloney 41st David Weaver 47th Blair McLay 57th Max Andrews 67th Sam Meech 73rd James Sandall 98th Matt Coutts 100th Aaron Hume-Merry
