The Wollongong ahm Hawks have scored a stirring 88-76 victory over the Townsville McDonald’s Crocodiles tonight in the deciding Game Three of their National Basketball League Semi Final match-up and have advanced to the 2010 NBL Grand Final series where they will face the Perth Wildcats.

The Hawks took Game One of their series with the Crocs after scoring an 87-68 victory at their homecourt at the WIN Entertainment Centre (‘The Sandpit’).  The Crocs levelled the series however by recording an 82-53 win in Game Two at the Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre (‘The Swamp’), forcing a deciding Game Three back in Wollongong.

Rhys Martin and Dave Gruber paved the way for the Hawks in Game Three with an outstanding first half, the duo combining for 25 points on a perfect 10-of-10 clip from the field.

Martin finished with 16 points (7-of-8 shooting), while Gruber (15 points and five boards) and Cameron Tragradh (14 points) each had perfect shooting nights.

Corey ‘Homicide’ Williams poured in 27 points for the visitors, while Michael Cedar had 11 of his 14 points in the first half as the visitors were unable to reel in the hot Hawks in the final 20 minutes.

Wollongong skipped ahead 20-9 in the first quarter, behind threes from both Martin and Mat Campbell.  Cedar kept the Crocs afloat with a pair of threes, but Gruber unleashed a devastating stint from off the bench to push the Hawks ahead 29-17 at quarter time.

When Martin peeled off seven straight points for Hawks to open the second, the Crocs were forced to play catch-up ball and never managed to catch the home team.

The 2010 NBL Grand Final series tips-off with Game One on Friday 5 March at Challenge Stadium in Perth at 7:00PM (local time).  The full schedule for the Grand Final series is below.
